The site was previously subject to 7 planning applications and appeals, before we took on this project. Having stepped back and reviewed the site in its wider context, we developed a more sympathetic and appropriate design, balancing local concerns and traditional attitudes against modern technical requirements and the clients’ aspirations. This approach was validated by securing planning approval with a unanimous Council committee decision.
The technical design was detailed to achieve the Passivhaus standard performance and we supported the client to oversee the construction, as a self-build project.
The building won RIBA Norfolk's Design and Craftsmanship Award in 2023 for Best House.
